Volunteer Fire Departments
Douglas County has seven volunteer fire departments that play vital roles in protecting their respective areas. Douglas County Volunteer Departments utilize their own radio channels but follow the same radio codes as the Omaha Fire Department.

Valley Fire Department
The Vally Fire Department is a 100% volunteer fire department that has served Valley, Nebraska for over 130 years. VFD has approximately 45 dedicated members. In 2024, VFD ran a total of 651 calls. 26% were for fire and 74% were for EMS. To find out more, check out their website at www.valleyfiredepartment.com. Photo credit to Valley Fire Department.
Irvington Fire Department

The Irvington Volunteer Fire Department is located on the northern side of Douglas County. Irvington Rural Fire Protection District Number 8 stretches from 132nd Street to 60th Street from Fort Street to Dutch Hall Road covering a variety of neighborhoods, commercial districts and farm fields.
IVFD operates out of two fire stations located at 9111 Fremont Street and 7111 Star Grass Road.
IVFD is a 100% volunteer, all hazards department that responds to a variety of emergencies. iN 2024, IVFD responded to 1,008 calls for service which included 768 EMS related emergencies and 240 fire related emergencies. 2024 was a record year for IVFD, passing 1,000 calls for service for the first time. IVFD expects this number to rise in the coming years due to neighborhood expansions and developments occurring in their territory.

Ponca Hills Fire Department

Bennington Fire Department
Bennington Fire Department is a a combination department consisting of both paid 15 career firefighters, two paid chiefs and volunteers. BFD operations out of Station 600 which is located at 10801 N 156th Street and covers 42 square miles of northwest Douglas County and 6 square miles of Washington County. BFD is a suburban fire department, District #7, that is governed by a suburban board. In 2024, BFD responded to 1,496 calls for service which is 13% more than 2023 and is expected to grow year after year.
