Omaha-area residents affected by Alzheimer’s disease—or simply interested in protecting their brain health—are invited to a free educational conference hosted by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) on Wednesday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bellevue University’s Hitchcock Humanities Building (1040 Bruin Blvd.).
The conference will feature leading experts discussing early detection, new diagnostic tools, caregiver strategies, legal and estate planning, and treatments designed to slow the disease. Free memory screenings will be offered throughout the day, and local healthcare organizations and care facilities will be on hand to share resources.
“Knowledge is a powerful tool, especially when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA president and CEO. “We want families to have practical information and support so they’re better prepared for the future.”
Nebraska is home to more than 35,000 people living with Alzheimer’s, a number expected to grow rapidly as the population ages and chronic illnesses such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease increase risk.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged at www.alzfdn.org/tour.
For anyone unable to attend, AFA’s licensed social workers are available seven days a week via the National Toll-Free Helpline (866-232-8484), text (646-586-5283), or web chat at www.alzfdn.org (available in 90+ languages).
