Heart stopping video captures first responders rescuing two people, dog from frigid pond

OMAHA, Neb. - First responders rushed to the scene of an ice rescue at Lakeside Park in southwest Omaha around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, after witnesses reported a male and a female had fallen through the ice into the frigid pond while attempting to rescue a dog.

Ice rescue personnel from the Omaha Fire Department were seen deploying into the water securing the male and female. Other firefighters and officers from the Omaha Police Department pulled the group back ashore.

The pair, who were not immediately identified, were rescued from the water around 20 minutes later before being rushed to nearby Lakeside Hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses reported the dog was also safely removed from the water.

Temperatures across the Omaha metro dipped to 26 degrees following record setting snowfall earlier in the week.
